Mattress Cost Questions and Answers

Open Question: Why do conservatives argue that the government does not create jobs?

They argue that government spending does not create jobs or stimulate the economy. They argue that only private sector jobs stimulate the economy. However, my personal life experience indicates otherwise. As many of you know, I owned a manufacturing company. Many of my contracts were government contracts to make parts for aircraft, trains, and many other products. This is government spending that actually stimulated the local economy. ALL of the other business owners I know make money from government contracts. Whether it is a service contract with the GSA, or a military contract to make spare parts, the private sector benefits tremendously from government spending. Furthermore it isn't limited to federal government spending. The local police and fire department also spend money. When they buy new police cars, they spend money to get the cars retrofitted with lights, decals, and interior renovations. This work often goes towards local private businesses. Local schools issue contracts to local companies for general upkeep, from landscaping and maintenance to supplies and renovations. Government contracts are issued to clean the carpets, paint the walls, and maintain the HVAC. Not only that, but government employees spend the money they earn. They have salaries and they spend, which stimulates the local economy. Government employees do not hoard money in their mattresses. Government employees buy houses, cars, and home supplies, just like you and me. If we stop government spending, like conservatives want, then we lose all these contracts and jobs. If we ship all these things to the private sector, then they become more expensive because the private corporation needs to add money for their profit so the owner can become a billionaire, so privatizing everything will result in higher costs. In short, government contracts already produce billions in stimulus. I don't need a television or radio personality to tell me how government spending helps local businesses. I see it all the time. QUESTION: Despite direct observational evidence, why do Republican conservatives continually state that government spending creates no jobs? Also keep in mind, that government spending MUST by LAW be on American companies, while private sector companies continuously ship our jobs overseas. So government spending = only on American companies. Private corporate spending = jobs in China or India where labor is cheaper. Why would private sector spending help more than government spending? more

I want to get rid of the box spring in my bed, but still have space underneath. Im on a budget so i dont want to spend much. Voting Question: no lease and sharing house with landlord and now i have bed bugs?

Hello. I rent a room in a house with my landlady and her lover in New Jersey. I moved in in January 2010 and gave a $500 security deposit. I have no signed lease or contract and every month I wrote a check for my rent in my landlady's name. When I moved in, I, with the help of my parents, had to paint and clean the room. Also when I moved in I was told I was able to have access to the washer and dryer. After about a month, my landlady came to me and said I could not longer use them because her water bill was getting too high. I let that slide. Months have gone by and it became more and more uncomfortable to live there. I never had any privacy except to my room and the house was also full of noise. A few days ago I realized I had bed bugs. I immediately panicked and told my landlady. She screamed over the phone at me and instructed me to not leave my room and do not remove anything from the room. I felt so uncomfortable because she kept telling me I was a dirty person and she kept thinking of ways of telling me how I would have gotten them... including assuming that I have had multiple partners in my bed. I felt humiliated and totally embarrassed. Most of all, i felt completely disgusting. She told me that no matter what the cost of the exterminator bill that I will be responsible for paying for it. I felt bullied and scared for my life.. so I nervously agreed, trying my best to hold back tears. My landlady MADE ME sleep in my bed bug infested room and would not let me sleep in the guest bedroom or even on the couch. I had no where else to sleep as I could not afford a hotel and my closest family members are 2 hours away. The exterminator came for an inspection and I was told by my landlady that I had to put all of my belongings ( clothes, electronics, everything) into industrial bags and leave them in my room, with the exception of my clothes. I was told by my landlady that my clothes are to be washed and left in my car ONLY. I can not bring them into the house, even if I have washed them on hot, like I was advised to do to get rid of an infestation. After I put everything into bags, I had to throw away my expensive, personal possessions. ( rugs, clothes that shrank because I had to wash them all in hot water, suitcases, lamp, comforters, pillows and other personal belongings) I then had to wash my entire room from top to bottom and move all of my furniture. My landlady screamed at me through the door to give me instructions but would not lift a finger to help me. The whole time I was feeling degratted and humiliated as a human being. I was being treated and talked to like trash. It took me 5 and a half hours to do this preparation for the exterminator. After this I washed a large amount of my clothes at an all night laundromat and left at 2:30am. I stayed the night at a friends apartment. Next day my landlady calls and says that the exterminator says that I have a large infestation in my mattress and box spring and the bedbugs have spread from my bedroom into her linen closet. I was talking to my manager and 2 coworkers at work when she called me and they could hear her screaming. I could not understand everything she was saying, so I said "wait wait wait, what did you say?" and she said "no, you wait. I talk, you listen." she then said "don't fuck with me, I know where you work and I know who your parents are." she then said that my mattress and box spring need to be removed from the house immediately and all of my belongings will be out on the street. I immediately panicked and grabbed a few friends from work to help me get my things off the street. I called the police for an escort and they were standing by. I get to the house and nothing is on the street so we entered the house to get my stuff. The exterminator said I could not removed anything for 24hours. My landlady then came out and asked me to leave her property. I said to her I am getting my things from the house and she said "I don't live here anymore." She asked for my key back and I said to her that I still have my belongings in the house and I will not give it back until I get all of my belongings. She then said that she is going to change the code on the alarm. I told her that I would be back at 5pm next day to get all of my belongings out of the house. I am sorry this is such a story. But here are my questions. Should I have to pay for the bed bug extermination? I rarely have guests and they have guests in and out of the house and they have 2 dogs. Should I ask for my security deposit back? Can I sue them for me having to rent a storage locker because I was basically evicted and I am still paid in rent for the next few days? Needless to say that I am staying with a friend ( after begging because I have no where else to go.) My landlady and I are not on good speaking terms. Should I call the police again for a police escort in case she will not allow me to retreave som more

Resolved Question: Apartment rent question?

My college apartment rent is $1166.00/month for the entire place with 3 bedrooms (so $388.67 per room). 4 people will live there total so one room will be used by 2. All utilities are included so there is no extra charge each month. I will be sharing a room so I thought it'd be fair to pay around half the room cost or around $194.33 a month since more people living there does not add to the utilities cost and because I get half the space the single room girls get. They are proposing that we make it more "even" by making us pay $270/month and they will pay $313/month. FYI, I don't get the bigger room, either. I can only fit 2 twin mattresses and a night stand in the room. No room for a desk or any other things... I feel like this is unfair...why do I have to pay more when I get nothing more? Opinions??? Also, I know the rent isn't "expensive" and that adding another $80/month isn't drastic but I'm in college and I'll be living paycheck to paycheck just to afford this.I just wanted to say again: all utilities are included in the rent cost. Blasting the air condition or letting the water run for hours won't add any extra cost per month, so having another roommate won't make it more expensive. more

Resolved Question: How Much Does Mattress Cleaning Cost?

I just got a new mattress and the beginning of this year. I have a cat and 3 dogs, and one of the dogs is constantly peeing on my bed. I plan on putting a mattress cover on it now but I wanted to get it cleaned first. How much does mattress cleaning cost and how ofter should I do it? How can I keep them from peeing on it? more

Voting Question: Why does my cat keep peeing on my bed?!?

I have 2 sister cats, about 4 years old. A couple of weeks ago, one of them pooped a huge pile in the middle of my bed! So I had to take all my stuff to the laundromat. A couple of days later she peed like a gallon right in the middle of my bed and on my pillow. It went through everything, even my thick fiber bed topper down to my mattress. Sooo I scrubbed my mattress w/ a carpet cleaner and before I knew it she had pooped right on the mattress. Couple days later, I woke up to find that she was starting to pee on me! Took her to the vet. He says that she must be mad at me, and that nothing else is wrong with her. Well she peed on my bed again today. I don't know what could make her mad. Nothing has changed. I know that it is only the one cat because I've seen her every time. The other cat acts perfectly normal. I've tried keeping her out of my room but I feel really bad about it because I live with my parents and she's really shy around everyone but me. But I do try to keep her out as much as possible unless I am in the room with her, but it seems like as soon as I turn my back she pees! The only thing I can think of that's changed is the people who live 2 houses down from us have a cat that just had kittens and they are all outside so maybe she can smell them? I keep the litter box clean, I haven't changed her food, I pay attention to her all the time and brush her every day. So I don't know what else to do to make her feel better and to make this stop. I can't keep taking my stuff to the laundromat, it's costing me a fortune! My mom suggested she is territorial with my other cat, but I don't see why since they are both fixed and are sisters and have always lived together. more

Resolved Question: How much would it cost to get my bed fixed?

One of the legs needs to be replaced. I have a poster bed, made of wood, and the leg is cracked so badly that it just needs a new leg. Apparently a carpenter could do this. The mattress is just nasty, too. I'm on a tight budget, though. I feel so horrible about the shape my bed is in; I've had it for 20 years and the mattress is all worn out too. I don't know if it's my fault for not taking better care of it, or if this wear and tear is just natural. It would probably be cheaper to get a new bed, but it has sentimental value. I'm facing a bit of a dilemna because I'm leaving the country to teach EFL soon and I'm on a tight budget and feel like my trip needs to be a priority. I can't take the bed with me. But, it drives me crazy to leave my house looking all junky, I hate going on a trip with loose ends at home. I don't know what to do. This is just one of those little things, I'm just obsessive compulsive about stuff like this. Thanks if you can help.Yeah, I did support it with a heavy, metal box... it looks SO TACKY... ew. Resolved Question: pay back in full or in installments?

here's my situation: after 3 years of working I'm returning to school. I'll be doing prereqs for grad school, then grad school in a year in a half. before i get into grad school i'm living with my parents. my dad is a wealthy physician who has always been very stingy with his money. he accused his 4 kids of being spoiled because we would go out to eat (he chose the restaurant, he paid), go on family vacations (he chose the venue, he paid), and experience other things he didn't get to with his blue-collar upbringing. I have grown up to be very frugal and have always lived far below my means. As a result I have quite a bit of money in my savings account that I had been socking away just for my planned return to school. Even with my savings money, I'm still pursuing loan options since I'm going into healthcare and most employers (and even the government) have programs that pay off loans if you work for them for a set period of time. I have not owned a car for the past 3 years since I didn't live in an area that required it, but need to buy one now when I move back to my hometown. I found and researched several online, and he helped me out by checking them out in person (helpful because I would have taken him anyhow to car shop . . . I'm clueless about them . . . and he is not a doctor who drives a Porsche, he drives a 10 year old Chevrolet Blazer). We decided on one on Monday, and he bought it (both because he test-drove it and also for insurance reasons, since I'll be living in their house). Here's the dilemma: I have enough money to pay him back in full, have money to pay for gas and insurance and repairs, and have a general "savings cushion". He does not know this. He has proposed a 5-year re-payment plan at 5% where I would pay him $200/month for the next 60 months. Nice idea, if I needed it. But over the long haul that will cost me $1,500 more than if I pay for the car today. Being the frugal person I am, I want to pay it off right now, both so that it is fully "mine" and also to save myself $1,500 over the long haul. My only hesitation is that he will be taken aback by my ability to pay it off and wonder what other money I've been hiding under the mattress. ps - I cannot tell him I received more loan money than I thought I would b/c he co-signed on my school loans and know the amount I got. more

Resolved Question: How much should it cost to pay movers?

I asked this question before...but only received spam & inappropriate answers. Awesome. So here it goes again: I need to move 5 pieces of bedroom furniture (a bed, a dresser, a night stand, a TV table/stand, and a small table). All of these items are from IKEA. The bed and dresser would probably need to be un-assembled and then re-assembled at the new place because they probably won't fit through the door. I also need the mattress & box spring to go along with them. All of these items need to be moved to a location that is 3 miles from my current home. The furniture items and pieces would also need to be brought up by stairs to a 2nd floor. I have no useful male friends who can physically do this for me. Or no one with a truck/utility vehicle. (I live in an area where men are more business suit wearing and less manly) Thus, I need to post an ad or hire movers from a company. What is a reasonable price for this job? What should I offer if I were to post and ad? Or what would be an expected price from a company? (Please don't answer with anything sexual suggestions like I had last time. Come on people...I'm 22...most of you are probably older than me, so mature responses are expected and appreciated.) Thanks! more

Resolved Question: I'm so sick of my family!!!!!?

I'm 17 and I live with my mom n her boyfriend. Life with them is hell on earth. They are two fucking pigs, they've been arguing about the same nothing for the past 5 years and I'm done. I sick of our living conditions and of them, We used to have this great apartment with nice furniture and everything I could ever want. I lived there most of my life with my mom and my sister. Then this assh0le came along and fuck3d it all up. He had the grand idea of moving to Florida. We left everything we had behind except for our cloths. In Florida we started from zero and worked our way up back to a comfortable life then, they decided they wanted to come back to Massachusetts. Again we left everything and came back over here. Now I sleep on the floor on a shitty mattress I have no door which means no privacy (I always have to sleep covered from head to toe). My mom is the definition of selfish, stupid, ignorant, promiscuous, and weak. I'm sick of living with her, my sister found her way out and now I want mine. Anytime I try to do better for myself she always holds me back. I was going to school and I had a job and she got her car repo-ed for listening to her idiotic boyfriend and so I was left walking to work which took about and hour all winter until I fell and broke my ankle but I didn't give up. I continued to walk to school everyday which was about 30 minutes away up until my ankle gave out and I just couldn't take the pain anymore. Here I am now a high school drop out with no job and as of now no future. That's not what I want for myself So my question is there any assistance available for teenagers who don't have children in the state of Massachusetts. I really want to move out I was thinking of going to job corps because they supply housing, education and career training. Living with my mom has cost me my future, my mental health and almost my life I don't want to do this anymore!!!This isn't about me being a teenager and exaggerating things, this about me having to drop out of high school, not being about to work and better myself because of my mother. I want to know what are my options being 17 and living in Massachusetts. Is having a child my only way out. I know that in the state of MA they give teen mothers housing, food stamps, furniture, healthcare, childcare etc... more

Resolved Question: Bed Bugs, A Nightmare, Please help!?

In May, my youngest son attended a camp for three weeks. When he came home, unintentionally he brought home a little surprise. I obviously had no idea for a while why he was receiving bites all over his body, I just brushed it off as misquotes. As time progressed I started receiving bites and my other son also started getting bitten up. I was still completely confused until one day I was laying in bed and saw something crawling on me. I obviously killed the bug but had no idea what it was so, I did my Google homework. I basically found out this bug was a Bed Bug. Once I learned what it was I inspected the mattress and my son's was completely infested. I ended up throwing it out because it was so badly infested. I also inspected my mattress in which I only found one bug and only like 3 small blood stains. I vacuumed it very well and put it in a bed bug vinyl bag (bed and box spring). luckily my eldest sons bed did not show any signs of infestation but i vacuumed it anyway and also put it in a bag (bed and box spring). Also before even moving my sons new mattress into the house i encased it in a bag. The thing is, I still see them sometimes, on the bathroom floor and I know my sofa's are infested. If anyone sits on them they get bitten. I don't know what to do. It's a brand new living room set, that I payed close to 2,000 dollars for. As a single mother living on a Nursing Assistants incoming, I honestly can't afford to throw it away. Yet, I can't afford to hire a professional. I called around and it's 1,000 dollars, and most companies said it will probably take multiple treatments. I spent my entire day crying my eyes out. I don't know what to do. I can't live like this. I feel like a pig. I mean I'm going to try to rid myself of the problem but It's already cost me close to 1000$ between replacing the mattress and box spring, buying bags for the beds, and buying the "good night" spray at home depo. I'm going to spray my sofa's in this spray which seems to work really well (it's non toxic and can be used directly on fabric). Then I bought foggers, I'm going to fog the entire house. Then I'm going to cover my sofa's in plastic, with a staple gun and put sofa slip covers over them. I don't know what else to do. I feel so helpless. Do you think this will work? I plan to launder the covers every week and do regular vacuuming of baseboards. I also plan on fogging once more. Anyone experienced these horrible little bugs? What did you do? Advice, is more then welcomed! Btw. How can I avoid my eldest son bringing them to college with him. I'm so worried in the fall he will bring them to college with him. more

Resolved Question: How does this letter sound? To landlords agent.?

Dear ........ We have been instructed to contact you regarding the bond from ......... It’s been 2 months since we left the property and we still have not received our deposit back. The problems Einir originally gave us are as follows; We were told the carpet in the lounge smelt of dogs. The carpet did not smell of dogs and we have two witnesses to confirm this. We were quoted £100 for cleaning. The cooker was dirty but not 6 months dirty. We have photographs and two witnesses to confirm this. The cooker was black when we moved in and black when we left. However before we left Sam did give it a good scrub with some oven cleaner. We were quoted £50 for this doing which is an absolute joke. The garden was perfect when we left but the staff at the Blaenau office did not go to check the house until two weeks later by which time the garden seemed overgrown. We were quoted £70 for this. Two kitchen doors fell off. You yourself told us not to worry when you came to do the 3 monthly inspection. We also have three witnesses who will confirm the kitchen was a wreck. Most of the other doors are falling off anyway so they’ll fall off for the next tenant. I will be writing them a letter and will stand up in court if you try to take a penny off them. We informed Einir a week after we moved in that one had fell off she replied that Chris would come and have a look. In six months he did not make any effort to come and see the kitchen even though we reminded him at least every two weeks. We told you we were leaving at the end of the tenancy and you said we were welcome back at any time as we were perfect tenants. We were quoted £75 for this which later reduced to £50 then £24. The bathroom door needed replacing and fitting which we agreed to. After all we did break it. We would like to point out that we paid £25 for a rubbish and ugly door when we offered to buy a very nice solid wood one for £15 and fit it ourselves. This wasn’t good enough for the landladies. We feel the mess your builder made is your responsibility. After all the tenancy had ended at that point and we had left. Also he should have put a sheet down to catch the sawdust. We were quoted £25 for the door fitting. The Blaenau office Tried to take the full £370 even though all the quotes added up to £320. These were the quotes that Einir gave us over the phone and were written down on the 1st of June when we drove 300 miles and spent £60 in diesel to sort out this mess. We confronted her about this but she shrugged and said “I don’t really know”. The carpet did not smell of dogs but we put some shake and vac down (cost £5 approx for two cartons and took ½ an hour). We cut all the grass which was overgrown but wasn’t when we left (cost nothing but took an hour). Cleaned the oven (cost £5+ for this nasty acid and took ½ an hour work but left it for 4 hours). After we had spent 2 hours work and spent £10 we called Chris Thomas, he left us waiting 2 hours before he came even though we made an appointment at 3. He said it was all fine and we left to go to the office. Enid wouldn’t log in to the DPS to return our bond, we tried to sort it out but she said she needed to call a few people. The shop closed, we went home and she phoned us a week later to give us a whole new list of problems. These problems are listed below; The kitchen cupboards (see above) at a cost of £50 which was reduced to £24 after we told her they weren’t getting a penny. The “rubbish” they said needed removing was a perfectly good mattress intended for the next tenant and the old bathroom door that your workman left. When we moved in there were piles of rotting food and other household mess left behind the kitchen extension, as well as a pile of rubbish in the shed. We have two witnesses to verify that. We cleared this up without fuss. Cost quoted £15 Cleaning of the cooker and hovering of the sawdust your builder left. The oven was spotless, 20 million times better than when we moved in. Cost quoted £10 The doormat was missing. We threw this doormat in the bin because it stunk of urine. Dave thought you should have the money for the new one, I begrudgingly agreed but I’ve seen an identical one in Argos for £3.99 regardless we agree to pay the £10 you asked for. Bathroom door (see above) we agree to pay £25 for the door fitting. In conclusion we agree to pay £35 for the door and doormat but nothing else. I am sending a letter to the Blaenau office on Monday the 12th of July giving 30 days notice before I take this to court. If we do end up going to court I’ll be applying for the costs involved driving down there on the 1st of June to fix your imaginary problems. I invite you to try and sort this out before then but I won’t pay anything else other than the £35 I’ve already stated. Regards more

Resolved Question: How does this letter sound? To my landlords agent about getting my bond back?

The upshot is I need to send an e-mail to the boss of the estate agents because the little people don't know what they're doing. I'm trying to write down all the problems I've had in the hope he'll agree to give me my bond back. If not I'll be going to small claims court (UK). Dear ........ If we do end up going to court I’ll be applying for the costs involved driving down there on the 1st of June toIf we do end up going to court I’ll be applying for the costs involved driving down there on the 1st of June to fix your imaginary problems. I invite you to try and sort this out before then but I won’t pay anything else other than the £35 I’ve already stated. Regards more

Resolved Question: Should i just buy a cot and risk the row?? mum help please!?

Hi when i found out i was pregnant a year ago my parents asked me if they could buy the cot or pram,i asked for the cot as it was cheaper than the pram cost.( we wanted a complete travel system and just a normal cot for the baby.) Anyways my baby is 5 months old now and sleeps in a travel cot as every time i bring up about getting the cot my parents get defensive and say they will they just dont have the money, now i dont mind baby sleeping in a travel cot but the mattress is lumpy and we want his cot so his room is finished as he sleeps through the night there is no need for him to be in our room (plus our room we really cant move in its tiny) What should i do my partner is getting really angry with them and i can see why but i know that by buying a cot or saying about us buying it and them giving us the money back is gonna cause a row...any advise would be helpful thsnks. more

Resolved Question: Can I wash a Down Featherbed?

I have a down featherbed on top of my mattress. Well I had asked my roommate to clean the litter box last night since I wasn't coming home til late....guess she didn't and the cat peed on my bed (he's kind of picky on having a clean litter box). Anyway, he did this same thing 2 months ago and it cost me $60 to have it dry cleaned, I really don't feel like shelling out ANOTHER $60 to have it cleaned again. I've read online that machine washing down is a nono and this featherbed actually belongs to my Mom, so I don't want to accidentally destroy it. But is there ANY other way I can clean it? Is it really that big of a deal if I throw it in a washer just this one time? Spot cleaning isn't an option, it soaked all the way through. more

Resolved Question: How much do mattresses usually run for?

I'm 15 and I'll be a sophomore in high school this coming year. I just got a hand-me-down mattress from my parents, but it is very firm and uncomfortable. I would love to get a Serta mattress because of their widely-known comfort. I'd keep this mattress for a long time and I will try to get my parents to go for this, because I would really like a new mattress. So basically my question is, how much does a typical mattress cost? Not particularly above or below average. How much would it cost? THANKS! And if you have any advice for convincing my parents to get me a new mattress, that would be extremely helpful. The reason why I got their old mattress is because they got one of those sleep number ones. more

Resolved Question: vacation question. Vacation was split 4 ways. mother in law is inviting more who dont have to pay?

I asked this one other time. but the situation has become worse. Every year we go on a family vacation with my in laws. each individual family is required to pay their half of the cabin rental and bring food. Fine. I have absolutely no problem with that. We rent a 10 sleeper cabin each summer for a week. This year, my mother in law has invited both of her brothers to go with us, and their spouse. one of the brothers daughter and grand daughter are going as well. These new added families do not have to contribute to the cost of the cabin, nor are they being asked to by food. I find this TOTALLY unfair. when we bring it up to my mother in law she says it will all work out fine! by whom? We were at her house today when she invited her nephew his wife and their 3 small kids. Mind you this is a 10 sleeper cabin. Out of respect for my elders (hubby's aunts and uncles) i get that they need a room but they didn't pay for anything. I think they should take the air mattresses that i was told today to bring for my 2 girls. Why should i provided food and beds for all these people my mother in law keeps inviting? how do we tell her enough is enough? with out up setting hergreat answers. The cabin had to be paid in advance, We paid our share the end of may. We are to leave wednesday morning. And i am told today that i now need to bring and addition 5 pounds of chicken, 2 more gallons of milk. and a few other things...cant these other family members get it? if they are that broke then they DONT need to go in my opinion! more

Resolved Question: Moving from Morgantown, WV to San Antonio, TX?

OK, so I have a lease in Morgantown, WV that's going to be up at the end of May 2011, and I've decided several months ago I want to move to San Antonio, TX... I was down there several months ago on vacation and really liked it. Plus, when I compared the Cost of Living, several sites had San Antonio cheaper than Morgantown (I couldn't believe it!) Anyway, the only possessions I have worth taking are my laptop, iPhone, clothes and linens, a box of DVDs, a small box of books, an air mattress (which I have a feeling will come in handy at first), a TV, DVD player, PS2, and a few other small (yet sentimental) possessions. Everything is going into my car (an 01 4 dr Saturn SL1) My questions are... How soon should I look for an apartment/job? I was thinking 6 months in advance, start apartment hunting by making phone calls and taking a week off to go down there and check them out... and about 1-3 months in advance of job hunting. I don't mind working odd jobs at first. How much should I save? Since I am "traveling light", I plan on saving anywhere from $3K-$5K (target $4K) to move... you know, in case I can't find a job when I first get there (what an economy! woo!) Any/all advice you all can provide me would be MUCH MUCH appreciated. I will be glad to clarify/follow-up as needed. more

Every year we go on a family vacation. The cost of the cabin (mountains) is divided by 4. my mother and father in law. bro in law and his wife. Other bro in law and his wife and kids. and us. well my oldest bro in law can not come so my mother in law had to cover their cost. In return she invited her brother. to take their place. They do not have to help chip in! im pissed! We had a meeting tonight about what food we were taking who is making dinner what night..the added family isn't making anything or taking anything. This cabin sleeps 10. It has 3 bedroom, and beds spread out. My mother in law expects us to give up our room to his aunt and uncle because of their age (60+). and the other bed room has to be for my sister in law because she is 7 months pregnant. Resolved Question: Is it okay to store my really nice expensive Simmons mattress on it's side?

It's a queen sized mattress with latex and individual springs. I've had to move out of my apartment since I lost my job. We will get another apartment at the end of summer and take it out of storage then. But right now it's been up on its side for about 3 months. Will it be okay for a few more? Should we turn it over onto it's other side to make it fall evenly? Will we destroy this mattress by doing this to it? And if the answer is that we must store it flat right away, where the hell are we supposed to store it? The space we have is just barely big enough for all our stuff and it's costing us over $100 per month! And we don't want to store it in anyone's home to keep it free from allergens, pets, and mold and we don't want anyone else to use it... Any suggestions welcome. And if you think it's bad to store it on its side, is that because you think it would be bad, or because you actually stored a mattress on its side and it definatly messed it up? Thanks. It is in plastic. And when you say it will be fine, you say this from actual experience? more

Resolved Question: What can I do my daughter is having a really hard time breathing......?

I have an appointment with her specialist in July and they can't get her in any sooner. I call everyday to see if someone has cancelled but so far nothing. I have begged with them and they will do nothing. I have done everything I can at home except for move. I've covered her mattress in a plastic covering also her pillow. I have an air purifier in her room. I bought her a peace lilly which is suppose to help clean the air. I use only the best air filters the ones that cost like $20. I also have put a filter over her ac vent that leads into her bedroom. I take her to her ped and all they do is give her predisone which I don't' like giving her because there could be long term side effects and it makes her mean and her heart beat really fast. Besides that she gets sick as soon as she is off the predisone. Today I took her to her ped and a stupid a** physicians assistant saw her. This stupid b*tch told me to give her Zantac, wow funny I never knew a heart burn medicine could help someone with asthma. I'm at my wits ends. And what makes it worse is that she is disabled so I can't seem to find any other insurance. She's on medicaid but it ends in July. Any advice have any of your kids gone through this? I just don't know what to do.Yeah Jason I'm sure that is what she meant but she wrote down Zantac and also it's generic name. If I was a dumb a** I could have gotten that for my child and given it to her more

Resolved Question: estate agent problems! take them to court!? HELP!?

My friend and I are renting a flat, and we are dealing with dodgy estate agents, the 1st problem is they are refusing to give us a second key fob to let us in the building, the contract stated 2 fobs but only gave us the one before we moved in and told us the guys bringing the new mattress a week later (once we had moved in) that would hand it over to us, well.. the mattress guys had no idea what we were talking about and therefore didn't have any fob. the forms had to be signed well before the mattress guys arrived ( like a week before) and handed back according to the deadline, so yes, we signed for something we never received, although we were assured that we would get it, time has passed with countless phone calls, emails and complaints in their office that we have not received it, as well as they are trying to avoid us by not answering our complaints, they are now charging us £75 for a new fob!! ( these fobs do not go beyond £30!) they other guy who lives in the same building, his cost £25, so they have obviously thought up a silly high figure and expect us to pay, we are also students which is also one of the reasons they are taking advantage. they have also charged a £150 admin fee and have done absolutely nothing to earn this! this fee is also very steep for an admin fee! we moved in September, it is now June and still no fob, I am about to put this complaint in writing to them, recorded delivery so there is no excuses not to reply. should we take them to small claims court? Any other advice will be greatly appreciated, Thanks!ok, yeah that does suck a bit having signed something. but what about using the mattress company as proof we never received it? they also keep calling up saying we havent paid rent when its electronic and they have been calling each month when a payment is due to go in when it has clearly come out of my account, they are trying for double payments. rogues. more

Resolved Question: Should I end this relationship or try to weather the storm? I really dont want things to end?

I met my girl friend on the internet. We have been seeing each other since end of April. Probably chatted online since March. She lives 250 miles from me. She has a 10 month old child. Things between us were going well until recently. I felt that I was making more of an effort at the relationship than she was. But largely I let this go as she had a child to devote her time and energy to. I just had one conversation with her about "where do you see us going" which she largely avoided and didnt really answer any of my questions or concerns. She said I love you first early into the relationship. I think I do love her and said it back. She would txt me every day or other day. She hasn’t much money and shares her home with several members of her family. When I first went down to her I brought her, her parents and her child gifts which were well received. I usually pay for most things we do but with her child we rarely go out. She had a single bed. I had a spare double bed stead. I offered to give it to her and she enthusiastically agreed to his. So I brought it down and she was very happy with it. The mattress I had with it was terrible. When I gave it to her I told her I would get her a proper mattress when I could afford it. She told me she would get it herself. But I said no I’ll sort it for you. So we left it at that. But often she would complain about the mattress and criticise it and say there was nothing wrong with her old mattress. So I got paid at the end of the month and wanted to get her the new mattress as she constantly complained how her back was wrecked and she wasn’t sleeping right. I wanted to show her that I cared for her and was not just in our relationship for sex. So I saw a great mattress online, forwarded her the link and asked her to check it out. She said that it looked good but that she couldn’t afford it yet. So I went ahead and bought it for her confirming that se had liked it. I went down to visit her like we had agreed on Friday passed. She had been cold with me online prior to me coming down but she put it down to her being tired or ill. She wanted me to come down. After a six hour journey I got a frosty welcome. She criticised most things I said or did. She showed me no affection whatsoever. That night I asked her what was wrong with her. She bit my head off and said I was being paranoid, nothing was wrong and that she was simply tired. Her behaviour continued weekend until the Monday (I was returning home on the Tuesday – today). Monday evening late she went to shop. I went with her and finally she talked to me. She asked me how much the mattress cost. I told her price and asked why do you ask? She sharply replied I'll pay you that money back when I can afford it. I said I don’t want you to do that. She said look I hate getting gifts, I’m not one of those people who accept gifts for no reason. Birthdays or Christmas is different. So I said is this why you have been funny all wkend. She confirmed that it was. I said well I wish you had have talked to me about it sooner. She said she found it difficult cos she didnt want "to come across as an ungrateful bit*h" despite being very bitchy to me the entire weekend. I calmly said okay, I had no idea you felt this way but I understand what you are telling me. She went into one then about how she should have bought the mattress herself that the new mattress is mine and will never be hers. Again I told her I understood what he was saying. I told her look I didnt buy it to you so you would give me anything in return, I did it cos I care about you a lot. She said she knew that and that is why it was so tough for her to tell me how she felt. I said look I won’t buy you anything like that again without discussing it with you. The reason I bought this is because I felt it was something you urgently needed and that you would never buy it for yourself and I went ahead and bought it because I knew you never would have let me buy it to you. Again she said she knew this. I said look can we not just both chalk this whole misunderstanding down to experience and move passed it. She agreed to do this. I asked if anything else was the matter. She said no. Are you sure, she said no. So I thought we were okay. We went to sleep last night. I had to ask her to kiss me good night. I got a very quick kiss. I asked her to wake me up in the morning before she leaves for work to kiss me good bye. She did this this morning. Again a very quick half hearted kiss no hug. I txt her when I got home after a long journey. Just to say I was home as she would always like to know before when I got home safely. I simply said "hiya, thats me home now x". She hasn’t replied yet. Usually she replies quite quickly unless she has a good reason. She may well have a genuine reason. But then again maybe she doesn’t. She gets free txt allowance and it ispossible that her free txts expired but I think this is unlikely more

She gets free txt allowance and it is possible the alloallowance expired but I think this is unlikely. Obviously I am thinking she has chosen not to reply, or not to so far at least. She complains too about being chronically tired and said she will ee her doctor this week. I dont now what to do. I want to be undertanding but I dont think I deserve to be treated like this either. I dont want the relationship to end but obviously if she continues behaving like this it will. more

Voting Question: how can i convince my parents to let me repaint my room?

i painted my room three years ago when i was in eighth grade but i'm going to be a junior in high school next year and i'm really ready for a change. right know my walls are green but i want to paint them red. i'm already getting a new bed sometime this summer. so i think its time too change it up. my dad says that he really doesn't want to paint my room again, but i am willing and would really rather do it by myself. the only things cost wise i would really need are the new bed (which they all ready said i'm getting) and then the things that go with it like the mattress and bedding. and then the paint and painting supplies. i plan on doing any artwork myself and in reality i could just get the fabric and make my own comforter. how much do you think this would cost? and how can i convince my parents to say yes?my walls are green if i use red in bedding it will look like christmas. no thank you. and i know how to paint since i heloed painted my room three years ago and have helped paint every room in this house including my brothers and my parents more

Resolved Question: I have been having problems with my estate agent, I think they are scamming me?

Any other advice will be greatly appreciated, Thanks!Thats a good idea withholding rent, although could they then not have permission for the landlord to evict us? more

Resolved Question: What is worth buying, and what isn't?

I am 5 months pregnant, due in October, and trying to come up with an estimate on how much this is going to cost. I've been researching average costs of diapers and formula per month, clothing, gear, etc. But what I have noticed is that all the sources I look at find certain things necessary and other things not so much, and differ dramatically from other sources. I just want to know what you think is really necessary, and what you think isn't? We already have- A Crib Two Mattresses Car seat Stroller Some Clothes (some are used from friends, but we haven't been able to decide on whether we want them or not since we haven't found out the sex- we actually find out tomorrow, so that will make things a little easier.) A bouncer What all do you think we need? more

Resolved Question: Latex mattress or memory foam mattress?

I need a new mattress! I am by no means wealthy. I cannot decide if I should go with a latex mattress(2 in latex 6 in high density foam) with a memory foam topper (cost about $670) or buy a memory foam mattress with a latex topper (cost about $500) Will the memory foam mattress hold up? I am mattress shopping retarded so any experience/knowledge would be very helpful :) more

Voting Question: My grade is filling our 8th grade hallway with 300 green&white balloons as our yearly prank. Whataya think?

My idea! We asked the janitor's if theyd help set it up and they agreed! The night before the last day of school (like 6pm), ten of us are going back to the school and inflating 300 balloons with our school colors and theyll cover the floor perfectly! The janitors are also gonna turn off the motion detectors, incase a draft blows the balloons. Oh! And we're bringing bike&air mattress pumps to blow them up. To make sure they dont leak into the main hall, we're covering the bottom two half of the hallway entrance with plastic wrap. (What if someone trips, though?) My best friend's mom is a teacher there and says its harmless and itll give the principal a good laugh. Im just nervous about teacher's reactions. Either theyll love it or blow a fuse. My english told me that a prank is a suspendable case for Freshman Year. But, over balloons? Would they? We'd clean them up. Its HARMLESS! The local dollar store is gonna charge us $25 for 300 balloons (150 of each color) and the entire grade is pitching in. So, it wont cost us much, really. Its our final chance to go out with a bang and we've been good&quiet all year. So, whataya think?! Will it work or not? Is it creative? Do you think we'd get suspended (all 20 of us)? Any suggestions or tips? more

Resolved Question: Am I asking to much for this crib and mattress? Where else can I try to sell it?

It's a ChildCraft crib in a honey oak color and Sealy mattress made with NON allergenic materials. Rails have the protectors to prevent teething babies from chewing it up and there are NO dents or scratches on it. I'm asking $125, less than half of what it cost new and it's NOT selling! I can't believe it! Am I asking to much? I see Jenny lind beds going for $60-$80. I have it on craigslist and the local paper, a week later and NOTHING! Where else can I try to sell it? more
