I'm 52 yr. old female, been out of work for 2 years. I'm waiting for unemployment (tier 5) to kick back in (????) I have a little Terrier mix that I've had for nearly 5 years (giving him up is not an option). He's been the only in my life that is solid since I lost my job. He's my best friend and I am his. We would suffer greatly if separated, this I know is a fact. We have nowhere to go and to be safe. We have a 13'x10' tent, coleman stove, lantern and ceiling fan(both battery operated), blowup mattress and pump, I also have (2) propane canisters. I receive food stamps on the 7th of each month. I am a 20 year old female. A little while ago, I started to develop a really painful hip (after developing lower back pain). Nothing in the way of trauma that I can remember has caused this, but I am stuck on what to do next. I enjoy many sports, including ballet, modern and tap dancing and find that it hurts most during ballet, especially in a developpe a la seconde on that particular side (the left). For those who do not know, this is where the leg will be drawn up the side and unfolded and held out. When I do this at the front I get a deep sort of 'clicking' in my hip flexor area (almost like a tendon/ligament is pinging over something), whilst at the side it is a much different and a much more intense pain right inside the joint, which is sharp and feels like I could get 'stuck'. I cannot do this very high at all anymore, making my foot not too much higher off the ground. On the right side I am able to hold the leg at about 110 degrees, and I am also very strong in my legs and core muscles, as well as flexible. I have been to see my GP, a chiropractor, physiotherapist, rheumatologist, and perhaps more, as well as having x-rays, an MRI and acupuncture, shiatsu and ultrasound treatment. Nothing has showed up on any scans (although I think they only scanned my lower back in the MRI), but the pain is getting worse and really getting me down. Anyone on the NHS has seemed to just fob me off and say there's nothing wrong, especially as I think they find it hard to understand as I am still quite flexible (I can do the front splits and am not really far off from the side splits). What they don't understand is how much flexibility I have actually lost. I am in pain at nights - I cannot lay on my back without getting stuck there due to sharp back pains, and I cannot lay on my left side due to the hip having a constant dull ache, which is also there throughout most of the day, especially when sitting for long periods of time in lectures. I have also had occasional bouts of sciatica. My chiropractor is the only one who's really trying hard to help me, and has done for a while now, although she is still unsure as to what it could be. I have changed mattresses, pillows and shoes, as well as having arch supports in my shoes, which are the only thing which can help ease the pain a little, however not very much and over a very long period of time. It is also difficult to find a pair of shoes to fit these into, especially with summer coming! I also go to karate (I started this after the pain began), yoga; pilates; legs, bums and tums (LBT), aerobics and aqua-aerobics. If I go swimming, it also hurts the hip to do breast-stroke.
Just one more thing - if anyone is to say that I should stop the exercise and rest it, please understand that I injured my knee (on the other leg) quite badly in a sprinting accident two years ago. I did not do any sport for 4-6months afterwards and the pain in my hip and back did not go. If anything, it may have got slightly worse. Also, at the beginning of January this year, I broke my toe and then had an operation (on something unrelated) and so have only recently been getting back into things again. Once again though, the pain did not leave. So please, after all this, can somebody help with any suggestions or conditions or anything?! If there's anything else anyone out there can recommend I shall still be grateful, and as for what I've already been given, I feel bad to just give one answer as the 'best' as a few are as good as each other. For years, the 59-year old pediatrician had treated the sick at his two-story hillside home near the center of the Haitian capital.
Suddenly, he was running a triage center, treating more than 100 victims on his shaded, leafy patio with food and supplies salvaged from ruined homes.
His undamaged house provides at least a minimum level of comfort away from the devastation — even for the dying — while thousands of others in the city lie in the dirt under a merciless sun waiting for attention from a handful of doctors.
"I have to thank whoever brought me," said Steve Julien, who says the last thing he remembers before he blacked out was rescue workers calling his name as they dug through the rubble of his house. When he woke up, he was lying on a mattress inside Surena's soothing oasis.
"It was a blessing from God my house is safe," he said. "We at least have been able to do something for everyone."
They injured sing Christian hymns as they huddle close together beneath sheets strung up as tents, but the earthquake still haunts them. Aftershocks rattled the city as recently as Friday morning.
Eighteen of their patients have died. No case hit Surena harder than a pregnant woman who died shortly after she started having contractions Tuesday night, likely from internal hemorrhaging. Despite a rudimentary Cesarean-section, they could not save the baby.
The patients say they know Surena is doing his best."Considering the materials here, they are taking good care of us," Hubert said.

Ok, I'm considering getting a ferret. And I've been reading alotttt about them. But I want to be as prepared as humanly possible because this will be my first time getting one.
So yeah, I'm sixteen years old. I'm still in school, but I know for a fact, when I'm home from school, my ferret will have plenty of time to play with me. At least, four hours. Will this be enough time? I know that in some places you need a license for a ferret. Do you know about the laws for La Porte, IN? I think I want to adopt a ferret, from what I've read it sounds more rewarding. Would I be better off buying an older ferret? I've read that they're still time consuming, but a little less training is involved. Are older ferrets from shelters usually litter box trained? I have been around ferrets before. One of my friends has two. And I just really like how they can be cuddly and lazy like a fat cat, but have the curiosity of a little kitten, and the attitude and playfulness of an energetic small dog. Is that kind of a good description on how ferrets typically act? Or am I way off? Also, I don't own any other pets. But I have before. I've never returned any of my animals to the shelter, I couldn't do that :C. They've all died of old age. What are the chances of finding a ferret who isn't bonded with another ferret at the shelter. I think I just want one for my first time. If I'm getting an older one, are there still shots I need to get for it? Will it be neutered more than likely? I'm waiting till I get a job for one. Whats a recommended amount of money I save up for before purchasing a ferret. I also know I need to ferret proof my room. My bed isn't on a frame, it's just two mattresses, so it can't get under there. I don't know what to do about my dresser. It's in my closet and I might just be able to keep that shut? i'm a senior in high school and have been in all of our drama club productions (musicals) throughout high school. this year we are doing beauty and the beast and i don't want to be in the chorus. i was going to try out for belle so they see i want a bigger part, but i know i won't get her. i think cogsworth would be fun but i'm a girl and i don't know if that's possible. i'm also looking at mrs. potts or madame la grande bouche (except i'm not a diva...) i'm a soprano in our chorus but i'm not the highest. more like a mezzo. i can chest some things and have a "sweeter" head voice (it's not super powerful). i've had mini solos in the past as a chorus member but since it's my senior year i want a role with a name and a unique costume if you know what i mean. i'm also thinking about auditioning with "shy" from once upon a mattress since we're not allowed to audition with a song from the musical. thanks for the input!

I moved into a new apartment in LA 2 months ago. About a week or 2 ago, I started getting bit in my sleep. My roommate is not getting bit! The bites are smaller than what I am accustomed to mosquito bites being, I get 2 or 3 a night, and they are everywhere! I sleep on my back with pajamas, and I managed to get one on my butt. My initial thought was bed bugs since I bought my bed on craigslist, but I have combed my mattress several times and found not even a smudge. I also have read that bed bug bites are clustered while these are all scattered. I also have a cat so my next thought was fleas, but she is not itching at all. If these were mosquitoes I would hear or see them. Today I checked my bites a bit earlier than normal, and they were red in the center, followed by a ring of regular skin tone, then a ring of red. This sounds like what I've heard described as a tick bite, but they are only 1" wide and where's the tick? Also by now, the outer circle has faded so only the bulls eye is left. Finally, I can't be certain of this yet, but I think they are starting to bite during the day also. If I know what it is, I can do something about it! Please help!

Chloe crept up the stairs which led to the cellar door. She listened before she opened it, her heart pumping so loud she was convinced someone would hear it. Everything seemed quiet and the fighting appeared to have stopped. As she opened the door she was overwhelmed, her world had been destroyed and was now completely unrecognisable. The quiet village which she lived her whole life in was now nonexistent.
She turned her face to the sky hoping to feel the sun’s warmth on her face, but the air was soggy and laden with smog and decay. The ground was covered in a carpet of smouldering rubble. Chloe shivered as she realised there were bodies strewn everywhere. Feeling as if she was going to be sick, she shrunk back into her hiding place.
Chloe’s father was the village priest, he had the greatest positive influence and authority on all of the people in the village. Her mother was the lead ballerina in “Chevalier la Damoiselle”. They were on their way home, when soldiers came, pulled out a rifle and shot them. She didn’t understand how her parents, who the whole village valued and respected, could die so quickly and undeservedly.
As she sat at the bottom of the stairs she thought about what was once her home, her loving parents, the picnics she shared with her friends. As she wiped her cheeks dry she made her way back to the cellar. She sat down on an old mattress and wrapped her arms around Amy, the little girl who was sharing the cellar with her. Amy was an orphan because of the war, just like herself. Chloe wanted to leave to try and find food but how could she with a seven year old with her. Chloe was only sixteen and had never had any siblings, caring for a child was entirely new to her. They had two options, facing the war stricken village with the possibility of armed soldiers lurking around or staying in the cellar and starving to death. At least a bullet would be quick.
They left the cellar in search of something to cease the rumbling in their stomachs and a warm place to sleep. The air was filled with an awful odour that was almost unbearable. As they walked through the village they saw bodies lying there and rotting. Vultures and crows were feasting everywhere. Chloe carried Amy and held her face close to her so she could not see this awful suffering.
They travelled for days finding no shelter and very little food. The occasional tree still beared some fruit and a few berries had managed to survive. Eventually they can to a small stream. The soothing sound of the flowing water made the two girls forget they troubles for a few moments. The warm ripples, like overflowing teardrops, embraced their skin and refreshed them. They came to what could have been a farm not long ago. It had been burnt but the frame was still there, they found some blankets hanging on the clothesline and made a makeshift bed. They stayed there for a few nights until there were no more berries to sustain them.
After a few days they came across a deserted battlefield. They could tell because of the deep trenches dug in the ground and left over debris from the soldiers. Crimson red stained rags were strewn everywhere. They found a small hut and rested there for a while. After many days of travelling the weather turned on them.
The sky was gun metal grey with a sickly cast of green and the air felt heavy, their clothes felt sticky and uncomfortable due to the unbearable humidity. The slow drips of rain that had seemed so innocent had grown in size and speed, until a steady downpour as the clouds above released their load. The wind had become so strong that the metal roof of the hut started to peel back like the skin of a large orange.
Chloe held Amy tight and told her that everything would be alright. As Amy drifted off to sleep, for the first time since they left the cellar, Chloe let tears flow down her cheeks like the heavy rain that surrounded them. She felt so alone and vulnerable, how was she to care for Amy if she couldn’t even care for herself.
When Amy woke her the next day the sun was in the sky. After a few minutes the clouds broke apart to reveal a brilliant rainbow. It was like a painting, the type you would see in a picture book. Chloe remembered one book in particular, it was the story of the star of Bethlehem. That meant this rainbow was a sign from God.
“We need to go in the direction of the rainbow!” her voice became urgent as she spoke to Amy. Amy scrambled up the hill half walking, half running to catch up with Chloe. As the rainbow began to fade Chloe became anxious and ran even harder.
“We just need to get to the other side of the hill”, Chloe made the decision to keep moving. When they topped the hill they could not believe their eyes. A whimsical village, untouched by war it seemed as if it was awaiting their arrival.
As Chloe sat on top of the hill gazing down on the village she realised ....

Having a comparison of major metropolitan cities back east, I have never seen homelessness dealt with in this degree. Skid Row is full of the people who hide underground in the subways of NYC. But when they are out walking around on the streets it's different. I mean at least separate the old from the young, the parents from the hustlers, and etc.MICA (mentally ill chemically dependent) have their own shelters tooThe way in which NYC deals with housing
1. pregnant women & families have their separate shelters
2. drug addicts and alcoholics have their own shelters
3. men have their own shelters
**at the time of intake you are weeded through and they know exactly where to place you instead of lumping everyone all together in ONE area within a two block radius. It's a CASH COW.

Please, if you don't know the exact law for the carpool lane in LA county don't answer- there are long sections of one double yellow line and it would be ridiculous to not be able to get out if you need to. And if it is illegal to cross them, what do the double double ones mean, certain death? lol thx and yes, any tickling sensation you're scratching is most definitely scabies and the easiest cure is hydrogen peroxide (keeping away from eyes) and plastic covering mattress. My sister is dropping her kids off at my house for 5 nights while she goes to visit her husband on a 4 week bussiness trip in LA. I am going to buy a few air matresses for them to sleep on. My question is which are the most comfortable kind? NARARATOR
Meet Jim, your average man, the man you never notice, the man who works the nine to five day job everyday without fail, the lonely man, you get the picture.
We are looking at a small room, covered with grey wallpaper with the odd painting of a woman half dressed standing in front of a small fence, but with her breasts covered in duct-tape. The floor is dressed with white carpet and as clean as clean can get. In the corner of the room is a small single mattress bed with a black duvet covering the frame of a man tossing and turning mumbling constantly to himself.
ALARM CLOCK- RINGING
At precisely 7.00am
Jim opens his eyes and stares at the ceiling before letting out a huge sigh
JIM
Wednesday the 11th of June, another day for me to do what I do best……let the world know I don’t exist.
Jim stands to his feet, stretching both arms as wide as he can , looking like he is about to fly away. He stares at the painting of the woman.
JIM
You should be glad I covered you up, cant be having you all nudely naked , distgusting behaviour for a woman of your beauty.
Jim then turns around and starts to walk towards the bathroom which is threw one damp and worn out looking brown door, he pushes his way past and into his small bathroom, consisting of a green lino floor and white tiled walls. One small mirror, a bathtub with a shower appliance, an overused toilet by the looks of it and a sink placed in front of the small mirror.Jim stands in front of the mirror and looks at himself. He is a man of petit stature a man in his early forthys, with short but curly black hair and tired eyes and a small twitch on his bottom lip, a slightly hairy chest revealed threw his un-buttoned blue pyjama top.

Ahhhh….look its me again, I need a new mirror, maybe then I might look better, maybe a brad pitt mirror, mmm note to self stop at mirror shop and buy a brad pitt mirror.
Jim grabs his red toothbrush and dabbles it with toothpaste before taking it to his mouth and brushing, slowly but surely, up and down and side to side, he places his toothbrush back into its little pocket on the wall and rinses his mouth out.
JIM
la la la la di dom dom, my name is Jim Cooper and I am your man of the year, ah who am I kidding? I work at an airport, hav’nt even got employee of the month or a free sandwich.
Jim walks towards his closet when he sets his eyes on the painting on the wall again,and thinks to himself shall he have one peek of what is under the dark grey duct-tape, but he fights his over whelming temptation and moves towards the closet.
CUT TO KITCHEN TABLE
Jim is standing at his wooden two person table rushing his last bit of breakfeast wearing his airport desk clerk uniform consisting of a blue t-shirt, a white blazer and black pants, which in fact are too small for him , and showing his cotton white socks .
JIM
Mmmm.. Why cant the world be made of you captian crunch delicious cereal, but you always keep me late don’t you captian, yup yup you sure do, but I forgive you as you taste so damn good.
Jim places the bowl on the table and proceeds to walk out the door, keys in one hand and a small brown suitcase containing his lunch and a pen.
CUT TO JIM ENTERING CAR
Jim walks out of his appartment building and into the car park which is just to the left of the building, car park has about 50 spaces , but only 4 cars remain in it ,one of them been Jim’s. Jim jingles his keys in his hands with a sad and lonely look on his face , and brushing his small curly hair back with the free hand. Stops beside an old run down green Toyota Corolla and slots his key into the lock on the door,it takes a few attempts but finally gets the door unlocked and enters, re-adjusting his rear view mirror.
The radio comes on playing a heavy metal band screaming very loudly, Jim winches before turning it off

I just don’t get it , why do these young people have to shout, what ever happened to billy ocean? At least that was calm and…
Before Jim gets to finish his sentence another song comes on the radio,it’s a pop song ,Jim looks bemused before driving off, not even bothering to turn the radio off as he knows another song he dislikes will just be on the next radio station.
CUTS TO JIM PULLING INTO EMPLOYEE PARKING AREA
Jim parks his car and shuts off the engine and begins to step out of the car, when a small chubby man with a bald spot the size of China on his head and also in his early 40’s runs towards him waving his hands and a slight limp

Hey Jim! Jim! Hey, hey , whats up man? Did you see channel 5 last night ,woooooooo man they had some nice ******* on there, Hey Jim! Jim! , guess what??? C’ mon guess!!

The stewardess’s from Europe arrived in at about 5am, I gotta get me a piece of that man, can u imagine? Bang bang whishk whishk…..ha huh huh? You with me?

Jim walks threw the sliding doors as Gary stops just before still with a huge smile on his face

He comes to a electronic doorway where he swipes his employee card. The card dosent work, so he tries again. A security guard at the other side looks at him as if Jim was about to ask a question,

SECURITY GUARD
Are you sure? Try it again
Jim swipes it again but still no result
The security guard then takes his card and swiped it true, working on the first attempt. Jim then walks true but abruptly stopped by the guard.

Okay, we know this sounds odd, but we (my girlfriend and I) have a real dilemma on our hands. Her dad is coming to visit, from NY to LA, so he is traveling with a bit of effort here...
We live in a small, comfortable 1-bedroom apartment, with living room, bathroom, kitchen and bedroom. It's just enough and we love it. But three's a crowd when it comes to sleeping.
Here's the problem - we are young (20s), we want to stay up late and have fun at night, watch TV, use this very computer, etc. which are all in the living room, the only place we can think to set up for him for sleep - on an inflatable mattress of ours. The living room has the TV, the computer...it's connected to the kitchen, which has things we need in it, like the refridgerator and the George Foreman. If he's jetlagged by 3 hours, he's gonna want to crash at 8 or 9! Unacceptable! Please help us have fun over the weekend... our room and bed are OFF LIMITES btw... He farts and snores a wallop.

5 yrs ago when I would start wetting the bed... I'm in my late 30s. I'd soak the bed just about every single night, I finally went to a urologist who put me on Detrol LA, which worked fantastic; completely eliminated problems. But he said I had a case needing surgery. Had the surgery and it was a miracle. I quit wetting the bed TOTALLY. The bed stayed dry 100% of the time. A huge relief to be rid of an awful problem. Now, last night, I woke up and found I completely wet the bed, after 5 succesful years post-op. Dismayed, had to get up at 4am and strip and change the bed (plastic covered mattress, thank goodness), and then had to bathe, etc. Pee everywhere. What are some products/ideas/anything that will at least keep your bed dry at night? Adult diapers? Sleeping on towels? It's a horrible feeling to wake up with the bed soaked in your own urine. How can I keep the bed and mostly myself dry if it happens again? I'd do just about anything...!

ok my in laws were going to come visit me and my husband in nc last month and my mil said no b/c they needed money to go on their cruise in a few weeks and since we said we can't make it for thanksgiving or x-mas due to my husbands schooling and the army we invited them to come in nov. all of a sudden her view changed and she said she'd do anything and it was up to my fil to work it out. she doesn't work and always complains about money and uses that as an excuse to not visit and expects up to drop our live to come visit them in la 900 miles away. if they do come which i hope not we recently bought a couch with a pull out queen bed and will put a futon mattress on it but i know it won't be good enough for her and she'll once again sleep in our room in our bed. is there a nice way to tell her that they will be sleeping in the living room this time and that we would like our bed and room this time?! also i set my a/c at 66 b/c i am very hot natured and like to be comfortableis it wrong to want to be comfortable in my own house or when she complains and turns it up after i fall asleep should i just let her change it? she is always complaining and making a scene about the temperature she'll take a chair outside and sit outside the door and also is she allowed to critize the way i like things like only allowing her to use a towel once and not washing dishes in the dishwasher oh and i have to wash all her dishes and cooking stuff anyways what should i do let this all go or put my foot down.

Bossier, LA (AHN) - A couple was booked on charges of child desertion and criminal negligence after a pit bull puppy chewed off four of their month-old baby's toes. Mary Shannon Hansche, 22, and Christopher Wayne Hansche, 26, told police they were sleeping on a mattress on their living room floor with the baby in an infant seat beside them. They say they were awakened by the infant's cries, saw her mangled foot, and rushed her to the hospital at about 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
The baby had surgery Sunday, but her toes could not be reattached, police spokesman Mark Natale said.
The Hansches did not see the 6-week-old pit bull biting the baby, according to Natale. It had no record of receiving its shots and was quarantined for 10 days to check for rabies. Natale said he did not know what would happen to the puppy after that.
Do you think these parents were sufficiently punished?
