Open Question: Can anyone help me with this toddler situation?

I am newly divorced and a single mom. Right now, all I can afford is a small one bedroom apt. My son is 3 and he has always slept in his own room until now. I don't have any room for him to have his own bed, so we sleep together in mine. I never wanted to get him into that habit, but I don't really have another option right now. I tried using a blow up mattress, but he just cried and kept climbing into my bed. We do sleep soundly, but I am afraid of starting a bad habit. Does anyone have any suggestions on this situation? more

ok well i have a tan colored room and my whole house is decorated in western themes. well for the bed room i have a very nice wooden bed and a wooden computer desk. i have been wanting a new vanity set. well i found a nice one but its dark wood. the opposite of my room. well i put it in there and it kinda sticks out like a sour thumb. is their any way i can help it look better with out removing anything. i plan on taking the computer desk out. and i have a dark wood table im going to put in its place but its small compared to the desk i have now and it would leave me with to much open space. and i cant get a new bed frame right now. i have a dark wood one but its to large for the mattress i have. and the light colors go good with my walls. more

Open Question: How should I support a loft bed?

So I'm in college and I'd like to make my bed into a loft. Instead of renting a loft for $150 for a semester and having to move it myself in a small car, I'd like to just put my bed ends on top of my room mate's bed ends but have no support in the same way they would if we had both mattress racks in. I just wanted to know if I should buy 2x4s and A) Bolt it to the frame in the holes where the bolts go to hold the mattress rack, or B) Just zip tie/tie with a rope the crap out of a 2x4 to brace all 4 legs?Well the beds were meant to stack. The posts have holes in the top and bottom for a small rod that I've already put in. They make sure nothing topples or anything like that. The 2x4 would just more more like a splint for the legs. And they'd be on both sides, for the record. more

Open Question: Where are the fleas in a hardwood floor room?

I have a bedroom with hardwood floors in it. With 2 clothes drawer cabinets, 2 shelving units and a closet with nothing on the floor only hanging clothes. Where are they coming from. I went through an exterminator and foggers and I recently tried Borax all over the floor to get in the cracks and I still have fleas. The white bowl doesn't seem to get them anymore either. They start biting when I go to bed then stop by two-ish. They do bite hard so there is no sleeping through it. I have hung my sheets out for the day and sometimes it helps. My living room is right next door to my bedroom that I am treating too. Could this be overflow from the rugged living room? Or could they be in me mattress? more

Id say that i drink a fair amount. i cant remember how long i been pissing the bed for - probably around 3 years ago i would get drunk and wake up in piss every now and then. These days, when i have a drink i seem to piss the bed almost every night. There's a mattress on the floor which I use as a bed. (For the time being, anyway - until I can get another bed lol). And I got up and then I felt such an intense pain in my lower back. It makes me feel like I have to always bend over & can't stand up straight. My Mom told me to stretch, so I did and no difference. I think I've pulled a muscle. The pain ranges from the top left side of my back, down to about mid-part. When I flex my back, the pain worsens. What can I do to relieve the pain? I've slept on the floor, or on a mattress on the floor my entire life. Its just how i sleep best, Frames + boxspring + mattress = i have trouble sleeping. Im just moving into a new apartment in The States and im wondering, what kind of bed can i get that suits my "on the floor feeling" yet doesnt make me appear to be some poor slob? Frankly i hate spring mattresses in general and would be happy enough to just roll out a think quilt on the floor and sleep on top of that but... well... not to sound like a pig or anything but one cant exactly bring a girl home to a blanked on the floor with a sheet on it. What would be my happy middle ground? I definitely dont sleep well more than 12 inches off the ground. But im not a bloody slob either! more

I think I have bed bugs. I say this because when I wake up in the morning, I have new big, bites on my body. They're pretty big bites and they itch real bad. well she will be turning 9 next week, and wants a slumber party. So here are my plans. Set up the living room with lots of mattresses over the floor (basically one massive bed) get all her friends over at the house at 5 pm, go rent some DVD's. Order some pizza in and get the girls comfortable in the living room put on the DVD's and let them have their pizza. then at around 9, set up the chocolate fountain, and snacks let them get their food and then bring down the games, like girly trivia, scene it friends edition etc and then let them talk and eat their chocolaty snacks before they fall to sleep. I have arranged for my husband and 2 sons to be out of the house because i know my husband will embarrass our daughter for a laugh so i promised her this time she will have a grown up party no adult interference, i will just be upstairs to make sure if anything happens there is an adult around. Open Question: How do I clean a top mattress?

I have a top mattress that is too big for my washing machine. Now how do I clean it? I have a shower and bathtub I can use, but I am not sure which cleaning solutions who can be used. Should I try to get the water up towards 60 degrees to kill the bed mites or is that impossible? Now I can't just drop it off at the dry cleaners because it is too expensive in this country, so unfortunately the easy solution is out :PETA: It is synthetic, but I am not sure what it is made from. Open Question: Low back pain for over a year. I'm desperate. Help?

I'm 15/f. I dance and play softball. The dance I do is ballet, pointe, and jazz. I'm mostly a left or right fielder, or catcher in softball. I make sure to work my abs almost every day. I've done everything I can with my parents not taking me to the doctor (I have a chronic illness, and feel bad enough that instead of my mom having eye surgery, my parents have had to pay for my hospitalizations, meds, etc.) I've had massage therapy, tried alternating heat and ice, and even got a new mattress. I sleep on my right side with a pillow in between my knees and another between my face and arm. I've also tried a day of bed rest here and there, but with school and sports going on every day, I can no longer do that. My back pain is horrible, and it's gotten to the point where even walking or laying down hurts. I push through the pain, but I'm not sure how much longer I can keep up the facade. more

Open Question: Getting rid of musty smell in mattress?

I just read up on getting rid of a musty smell in a mattress and box spring. Spraying stuff on it and then letting it dry out in the sun is very helpful. Last winter I had put the guest room bed in the basement to make the room more spacious. We are selling the house so I decided to make it nice looking again and get the bed back in the room. Of course out of the 5 yrs. here, it's been the hottest summer. Our basement is dry but has a normal basement smell and every so often when it seems very humid out, we put the dehumidifier on. Well, unfortunately I put the bed in the basement when I should have let it be because now it absorbed some of the humidity and smells a bit musty. I sprayed and aired it out inside and it's a little better but not sure if I should get rid of the bed or knowing that winter is coming, the smell will go away because the humidity will go away. Is that good or will still harm someone if they sleep in the bed? Thanks. more

Open Question: Tenant and Landlord problem!! PLEASE HELP 10 POINTSSS?

HI I have a major problem. A few weeks ago, a mother and son came to check out my basement for a room (for the son). The mother later paid the money for the sons 1st and last and then she left. I have her a receipt for the cheque. We also had a verbal contract and said that we would get the lease for the son to sign on the move in date. Yesterday, the son callled and said he does not want the room and wants the money back. I sent an email saying that I cannot as I have already paid for the new bed, mattress, table and chair. I told her that I will give the last month back but I will keep the first to cover the loss.Then I said that if I get a tenant before September 15th, then I can five half the first month back. Now I have to look for tenants and the chances would be slim because school starts in a few days. Now the mother is saying that it is against the landlord and Tenant law and how verbal contracts do not exist. What should I do??? HELP PLEASE :SThe cheque has a signature of the tenants mom And I had a signature on the receipt. Also for the first answer, can I prove a verbal contract if I have a copy of the cheque? Because this was obviously an agreement, otherwise why would she give me $1000+? and on the cheque, it says _______'s rent for Memoand the term was from September 1st 2010 till April 30th 2011 more

Having newly move into a property I have been sleeping on a mattress on the bare floor (currently no carpet or laminate). However, I've now found damp patches on the floor under the mattress (no, I don't wet my bed), creating mould. In your opinion, is this likely moisture from the bed user being being trapped under the mattress where there is no air, or a sign of dampness coming up from the floor also being trapped under the mattress.? The story is about an eleven year old girl who visited her grand parents, she learned from her grandpa how to build etc. She later went to see him in the nursing home and read a letter of how he had helped her and he spoke for the first time to her. Anyway the first paragraph is not right. Can you please help? Grandma and Grandpa have been a guiding force in my life since I was born. They were a perfect couple, she was short with permed gray hair and always smelled like Dove soap. Grandpa was was about six foot tall with a thin frame, silver hair and always smelled like Old Spice after shave. When I grew old enough I spent more and more time with them every summer. When they built a one room cabin on the side of a hill to stay in while building their dream home, I was there. It was during one of my visits that I realized what they meant to me. At age eleven I became Grandpa's helper and began the journey of learning from him. That one room cabin with it's wood burning stove and pitcher of water with the metal wash pan became a wonderland for me. There was little room between the table, stove and full size refrigerator that Grandpa converted to propane gas. Their perfectly made up bed was in one corner with a rose covered comforter on it. My blowup mattress was on the floor nearby. this is an essay for schoolIt does not summarize the whole story in the introduction. At least that is what the grading rudric wants. more

My son has outgrown his toddler bed & I bought the bed he's been begging for, only to hit hard times financially & not have the money to buy him a decent (not fancy but not junk) mattress. My parents are offering me an *unused* Sealy Posturepedic for free... but it's been sitting uncovered in a somewhat dusty, vacant bedroom now for over 5 years - a room where they keep caged lovebirds & budgies. I imagine most of the dust in the room is from these birds & I'm more grossed out than happy about taking the mattress (though my son desperately needs one). My 12 year old sister (you might have seen her on here) has the most terrible periods. When we go to school in the morning, her bed is often soaked through two sheets and the mattress even with a night pad and looks (and probably feels) terrible. She's often crying and has period pain every morning. It's a nightmare. According to her, I'm the only person she can talk to apart from our mum. I'm afraid it used to happen to me. But I went on the pill and it got better, but our mum (who's an ex nurse) says the pill isn't safe for 12 year olds. But then again she said that tampons weren't safe either, and they would be too big and wouldn't fit because I wasn't developed. I've been using them since I was 11, and I'm fine! We're going to take her to the doctor soon (we've been before but they told us to wait and see) but I was just wondering if they were safe. I hate seeing her cry and I want her to feel better. Please and thank you! PS: No, for God's sake, she isn't going to have sex.She's been given Mefenamic Acid, but so far it hasn't worked at all. more

Voting Question: Is it bad to have your bed too comfy?

I used to have a thin duvet and two pillows and I wouldn't have any troubles getting to sleep but it wasn't the warmest or most luxurious bed to sleep in, but on the plus side I didn't have much trouble getting up in the morning...recently though I replaced my old mattress protector with a thicker, quilted one, got quilted pillow protectors, doubled my pillows and got a duvet with a higher tog rating. I also sprinkle lavender oil on my pillows so that I sleep even better. I now have a really good nights' sleep at night and am much warmer and sleep much more deeply, but the problem is now I don't want to leave my bed in the morning...this morning it took me over an hour to get out of bed after my alarm clock went. Since then I've got nothing done all day cos I've still been really tired and haven't been able to wake up properly. I even ended up falling asleep on the couch after lunch for a couple of hours. Does it sound like my bed is so comfortable that it's bad for me? Is it better to have bed as a place that you don't mind leaving in the morning? I'm unemployed at the moment so it's difficult enough for me to have motivation to get up in the morning and get on with stuff during the day.edit: i meant i used to have 2 pillows side by side, but id only sleep on one. i bought a double bed when my gf and i were going out but she's off the scene now. more
